This guide is for instructors, learning design folks, and anyone who needs to know how to LTI create their Yellowdig community and connect it to their Blackboard Gradebook.

The steps below assume that Yellowdig has already been installed in your organization's Blackboard, instance. If you're unsure whether this was done yet you can reach out to us at support@yellowdig.com. You're also welcome to try the steps in this guide, and if you're successful that means that Yellowdig has in fact already been installed! 😃

⚠️ Only one assignment link and no description

  1. Do not create multiple graded assignment links in your course. This will create significant grade passback problems for your Community that could be difficult or impossible to reverse. For more information, see our LTI FAQ.

  2. Do not add a description to your assignment link to Yellowdig. Due to an issue in Blackboard, descriptions sometimes block users from accessing Yellowdig via the assignment link.

This guide contains instructions for integrating with Blackboard Ultra or Blackboard Original. Skip to the section that is relevant to you.

Ultra Experience

  1. In your Course page, click on one of the crosses.

  2. In the drop-down menu, select Content Market.

  3. Scroll to the bottom and click the cross in the corner of the Yellowdig item.

  4. You will be redirected to the main Course page. Click the ellipses on the right-hand side of the Course Content item for Yellowdig. In the drop-down menu, select Edit.

  5. Click on Hidden From Students, and in the drop-down menu, select Visible to Students.

  6. If you are using Yellowdig to grade your students, check "Create gradebook entry for this item." Then set the points for Yellowdig in line with your grade breakdown. For example, if Yellowdig is worth 10% of your final course grade, and there are 1000 possible points for the course, allocate 100 points to Yellowdig. For more on how grade passback works, see the Knowledge Base article.

  7. Before X-ing out, click the Save button.

Create Community

  1. Click the Assignment link that you've just created, which will launch Yellowdig and allow you to start building your Community for the class.

  2. If grading is enabled, you and each of your students must launch into Yellowdig through the one graded Assignment link that you created. Be sure to communicate this to your students directly and/or direct them to this help article.

  3. Finally, if you are using Yellowdig to assign a grade, make sure Yellowdig points are factored into the overall grade in Blackboard's grading tab.
