Using Pin to Top
If you want to make sure a Post is seen, we recommend using the "Pin to Top" functionality. When creating a Post, Community Owners and Facilitators can push the Post to the top of their learners' Feeds. The Post will then be displayed at the top of the Feed, as seen below, with a yellow outline for everyone in the Community. This function makes it easy for learners to find and see highly-relevant Posts. You can also pin a post to the top after it has been created, by editing the post. This also applies to any member posts that you may want to pin to the top.
Only one Post can be pinned at a time, so if the Community Owner or a facilitator (i.e., another administrator) uses the "Pin to Top" functionality on another Post, the original Post that was pinned to the top will return to its place within the rest of the Feed. A Post that has been pinned to top will feature a "Pinned Post" callout in the upper right-hand corner of the Post, visually signifying that it is pinned to the top of the feed. Comments cannot be individually pinned to the top.
Our only word-of-warning as it relates to things that are pinned to the top is that learners have to scroll over them every time they enter the community. For that reason, some learners can be annoyed by them, especially if you leave the same post pinned there for an entire term. We suggest only pinning highly-relevant content and replacing it regularly or removing the pinned content after it has been there for a while and most students have seen it.
Using Pin to Top
To pin a new post to the top of the learners' feed, simply click the Pin icon at the top-right of the editor window when creating a new post (as seen below). When you submit the post, it will go to the top of the feed. To push an existing Post to the top of the learners' Feed, go to the feed and find the Post you want to pin:
- Click the 3-dots on the top right of the Post, to open the drop-down menu.
- Click Edit.
- Click the Pin icon at the top-right of the editor window.
- Click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the post.
To unpin a Post, simply edit the pinned Post following the exact steps above, just making sure the Pin icon is toggled off before clicking "Update Post."
